September 2013

It’s hard to believe that Labor Day has come and gone!  It seems like yesterday that the summer was beginning!  It also seems like the days, weeks and months just fly into years.

But what wonderful weather we had for the Labor Day Weekend!  Humid, overcast and warm!  Good beach weather in Ogunquit, Maine.

The summer began being cold and rainy most every day then it quickly changed into very hot, high ninety degree weather!  Our poor gardens either were soaked or baked.  Not a good year for plants.  We noticed fewer blooms this year.

July got off to a slow start for all of us because of the crazy weather.  But we did see all our familiar faces and some new ones at Rockmere Lodge.  We even saw some more than once this season.  Thank you very much.  We are very lucky to have such loyal guests.  They always make us feel so happy when they visit us.

The Ogunquit Playhouse had a wonderful year with great productions.  Can’t wait to see what next year’s lineup will bring.

We had some excitement with several stores.  Your Body Works, Drop Anchor sunglasses and Lazy Daisy caught on fire!  As of this writing they are still not open.  Sad and terrible at any time but In Season was the worst time for this to happen.

Had some new restaurants open up this year with good reviews and, of course, the regular stand-bys always getting high reviews from our guests.

The best talk as far as lobsters goes is the Fisherman’s Dock offering of a dinner consisting of three one-pound lobsters and an ear of corn with melted butter for $19.95 plus tax.  Guests would go down to Route One in Cape Neddick and bring them back to eat at one of our tables at Rockmere Lodge.  We even enjoyed them almost every other week.

They say the water temperature was warmer this year even with the crazy weather we were having!

The “Blue” Moon this August was so beautiful rising up as if it was coming out of the ocean.  Beautiful, just beautiful!

Now for our fall season, Ogunquit is beautiful during this time because of the changing of the leaves and the cool evenings for that walk along the Marginal Way with your special someone or a quiet beach walk.  Ogunquit is less crowded on the weekdays and our room rates are lower ($165 to $195).  In the area there is apple picking and most all places have pumpkins to choose from.  October 25th – 27th is the 10th annual OgunquitFest weekend which is always fun.  We will be all decked out for the season.

Also don’t forget Thanksgiving weekend (November 28 – December 1) at Rockmere Lodge.  Rates are $140.00 per night.  Jonathan’s and a couple of other restaurants will be open for Thanksgiving dinner.  Book now for your special room.

Then the following two weekends are Christmas-By-The-Sea and Christmas Prelude (December 6 – 8 and 13 – 15).  Fun for all, and those who like to shop, we have discount coupons for the Kittery Outlets.

So thank you for another great summer season and we look forward to seeing you in the coming months.  We wouldn’t be here this long (22 years) without you.

Also a big Thank You to all who took the time to leave a review for us on and  We appreciate it.  If you have left a review on Trip Advisor and they didn’t post it, please email us saying so and we will forward it to our Rep at Trip Advisor for follow up.  They have been holding some of our Guest Reviews and not posting them for some sick reason.

Finally, please send positive thoughts and prayers Doug’s way as he will be having surgery on his back on September 13th.  Hopefully he will be pain free after that!

See you soon!

Best regards,
